In chapter seventeen Ishmael appears to be infatuated with a nurse at the hospital through a formal introduction he learns her name is Ester. What are some of the issues Ishmael may experience in forming a relationship with a civilian, and why?

In chapter fifteen Ishmael along with twenty members of his squad are in route to a town called Bauya they are in search of ammunition. Ishmael looks forward to both hearing war stories from his old friend Jumah who is now stationed in Bauya, as well as chatting with the lieutenant about Shakespeare. When Ishmael finally gains the opportunity to to speak with the lieutenant he is greeted with a firm handshake followed by “ Macbeth shall never vanquished be until great Birnam Wood to high Dunsinane hill shall come against him” What do you think the lieutenant meant by this quote?

Ishmael thinks if he does have a relationship with a civilian. He will be a slave like they have for example cook for the soldiers get them weapons and also even be touchier. This is the reason why ishmael may have issues with haveing a relationship with a civilian.

Ishmael didnt want to have relation ship with the civilian because he wanted to stay soldier till the ended. Also, having relation with the civilian will stop him from smoking drugs.

i think the lieutenant meant to tell ishmael that he did a good job at the war. also, he is happy with all the work ishmael had done to the rebels

An issue might be that, Ishmael had difficult experience in building relationship with civilian because after all these years he was used to taking care of himself. He already survived from many challenges he faced through his journey, the way he chosed by his own. In his experience there was nobody he can trust to, nor somebody he could obey or follow. So he developed a habit to be alone by himself. He doesn't like to talk to people, the nurse or staff in rehabilitation centre. He was suspicious to everybody who tried to be close to him. You can see the way he answered Esther's question about his name, and instead of telling her his name, he was angrily saying 'you know my name'.

It would be hard for Ishmael to trust a civilan. When Ishmael get close to someone for a certian period of time they either die or get loss. When he lost his brother in the forest during the shotting of the rebels. The big fire in the village and when he was running away for it Gasemu were shot. He would as though he was a jinks. The issue he may have is being able to open up to different people. When the nurse asked him about his scars. The only reason why he answered her so she can fear him.

Ishmael has issues with trusting people; He also is afraid of confiding in others due to the lost of his loved ones.Ishmael was severely brainwashed into thinking that anyone other than his army was the enermy. He will have to accept his past and start fresh with his new life that lies ahead of him;Acepptance and trust is what Ishmael must form when establishing a relationship with a civilian.

The lieutenant meant a soilder is always a soilder no matter where he may end up. I guess he was stating that it's not where you are it's who you are.

I think the lieutenant meant is, that a soldier will never give up, until they conquer the war they will never finish fighting.

well the issues maybe be that he still doesn't trust anybody so he's not going to open up to her just yet.

In this situation, i would probably have a problem with trusting Esther because I wont know her motive.if anyone want anyone else intend doing.

What I think the lieutenant meant by the quote was that Ishmael should never battle or conquer in war. Or in life unless he has to because it will come back to you later on in life.
